If 'American' as prefix to a restaurant calls to mind the fayre on offer under the golden arches from people with demented smiles then let Joe Allen's change your mind. There's no production line cuisine and when Itchy visited there wasn't a burger or hotdog in sight; just classics like lobster, spare ribs and lamb chops. Plus, the waiting staff are refreshingly inattentive, and there's no irritating diner music on a loop. See, it's American but not, like American.
