Earl Percy, The
Purple-nosed men were weeping in the streets when the solid old-timer The Earl Percy was painted chocolate brown, refurbed in pikey-pub style and given a fancy new menu. In fact, so outraged were the previous customers that they refused to leave, so for a while this place had that weird mix of slightly scared trendies, a herd of drunken Irish men and a bemused-looking priest all nervously supping to the sounds of break beat and hip hop. But Michael the manager worked hard over the summer and thankfully it's paid off and now everyone's getting on making it your classic local with, for those who can't bear to be parted from their shaved parmesan, a touch of the gastro. And a priest.
