Place Below
This veggie cafe in the crypt of St Mary-le-Bow Church is a cut above. If you're imagining earth mothers and hairy faced men demanding you pick the cabbages for the commune, then think again. This is the city. And The Place Below is atmospherically classy. There are breakfast coffees, pastries and museli from 7.30am. From 11.30am they serve freshly made sandwiches, homemade quiche, healthy bowls of lentils and rice and a hot special. It's all gorgeous, filling and properly tasty... not a limp leaf in sight. It's deservedly popular but there's plenty of seating, some of which is outside in summer. All in all, she's a winner. Get down here.
