Metropolitan Café

Almost exclusively the hangout of middle-aged ladies halfway through doing their shopping on a Saturday, this is an underrated café, right in the very centre of town. They make what could arguably be called the best chocolate milkshake in Bath, possibly the South West. With its homemade, GM-free, organic array of veggie sandwiches and cakes (no pork gateaux here), and slightly odd interior decoration – inspirational/funny quotes by well-known academic types adorn the walls – we love Metro. You couldn't get more 'Bath' if you put on a purple frock and took your friend Ethel out for tea.
