A gold mine of old hardbacks and out-of-print nostalgia, which is ruled by ancient biddies with a sharp glint in their eyes and a frightening knowledge of everything on their shelves. Not the place to pick up the latest bestseller (though you might find several done-with copies of last month's hot read), but great to browse for first editions or pick out an unusual tome from days gone by. As you walk out with your 20-year-old edition of Fly Fishing by JR Hartley, you can glow with the knowledge that you have done your good deed for the day.
