Salamander, The

The Salamander is a serious pub for drinking and talking, unless you come here at the weekend, when it's a pub for getting jostled by fellow punters, gesturing at the bar staff to get served and screeching at your friends to make yourself heard. The second of Bath Ales' showcase pubs – after the Hop Pole –, this traditional drinking hole has gone for the strange combination of an a la carte eaterie fused with a real ales pub, and judging by the drinkers that are lapping it up here, it's working for the people of Bath. The finger-licking food comes from the hands of three international chefs and is totally worth the visit alone, from the club sarnies to the seafood in champagne sauce.
