Pulteney Arms
If you like sport then this is the pub for you. Not your big screen theme pub, but a real traditional boozer with knowledgeable locals talking all manner of sports from hockey to football, squash to rowing. Known mostly as a rugby pub, it's best to sample the atmosphere before or after Bath Rugby have played at home at the Rec. There's been a pub here since 1759, and although there are no ghosts to be had, the warming fire and real gas lanterns will make you feel very cosy in the winter. Especially with one of the huge chip butties or Sunday Yorkshire puds inside you washed down with one of the six real ales. Check out the framed beer certificate from Usher's on the wall. The figures will amaze.
