Bath

Roman Baths & Pump Room

The whole Baths experience has been jazzed up in recent years with an audio tour to guide you through the amazingly well preserved remains. Ancient relics abound here in this excellent monument to Roman ingenuity and Georgian architecture. Set quite a bit of time aside for the visit as there are absolutely heaps of things for you to see here. From the ruins of the temple of Sulis Minerva – Romano-Celtic goddess of the springs – alongside treasures that were offered to her, classical temple carvings, inscriptions, and sculptures revealing the lives of the Aquae Sulis people. This is definitely worth visiting, though the entrance fee is a little on the steep side. If you really can't afford it then pretend to be a resident for free entry, or failing that just try and convince yourself that it's just a stinking hole full of green slimy water and head for the nearest pub instead.
